Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia meets with the Minister of Defense of Georgia

The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met with the Georgian Minister of Defense, Irakli Garibashvili, at the Ministry of Defense in Tbilisi on 2 July.

Ambassador Szczygieł informed the Minister of his main priorities and shared information on the Mission’s core activities in the country. He also expressed concerns regarding the humanitarian, socio-economic, and human rights situations with regards to the conflict-affected communities. The Head of Mission also noted that compliance of Georgia with the EU brokered Six-Point Agreement of 2008 is an important factor for stabilisation.

Mr Garibashvili congratulated Marek Szczygieł on his appointment as the Head of EUMM and wished him success. He added that the EUMM’s presence in Georgia represents the European Union’s unwavering commitment to maintaining stability and thanked the Mission for the constant presence along the Administrative Boundary Lines.
