The EU Monitoring Mission regrets the death of Nino Koberidze in an incident in Knolevi, close to the South Ossetian Administrative Boundary Line, on the evening of 11 July 2011.
While the details of the incident remain unclear, and are subject to further investigation by the Georgian police authorities, the Georgian Ministry of the Interior (MIA) has informed the Mission that this was an accidental shooting. According to them, the shooting did not come from South Ossetian controlled territory, but apparently was the result of the accidental discharge of a weapon.
The Russian Border Guards and the de-facto South Ossetian authorities were informed.
