RECENT EVENTS AND INCIDENTS, AND PREVIOUSLY RAISED ISSUES WHERE DISCUSSED AT LATEST IPRM IN GALI ON 14 JULY

15.07.2011
The twenty ninth meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), chaired by the United Nations, took place in Gali on 14 July 2011. This was the second anniversary of the launch of this IPRM.

Participants discussed recent events, including the latest situation of one detention case involving a local resident and a request by one of the participants to hand over persons wanted for their alleged involvement in terrorist acts.

Participants also discussed claims about the questioning and recruitment of people crossing the Enguri River. The need to respect the freedom of movement of local residents was highlighted and participants called for the refraining of any action which undermined this right.

The meeting took place in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere.

It was agreed that the next meeting would take place in Gali on 20 September 2011.
