US participant at Geneva Talks joins EUMM patrol to ABL

On 2 December Justin Friedman, the Director for Caucasus Affairs and Regional Conflicts at the U.S. Department of State and a participant in the Geneva International Discussions visited EUMM Field Office Gori.

Manfred Meyer, the Field Office Chief updated Mr Friedman on recent achievements, current challenges and activities of the EU Monitoring Mission in the area. The Director then joined a patrol to the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL). He talked to Georgian police officers and villagers about issues that are constantly monitored by the Mission: freedom of movement, livelihood and human security issues.

After the patrol Mr Friedman praised the valuable work EUMM does on the ground and expressed appreciation for the personal contacts the monitors have established with local people and law enforcement officers around the ABL as part of their information gathering work. He said the Mission should definitely maintain its activities that contribute to stability in the area.
