‘Work of EUMM indispensable’ - US Ambassador to Georgia

05.12.2012
Richard Norland, the US Ambassador to Georgia, visited the EU Monitoring Mission Headquarters on 5 December. He was welcomed by the Head of Mission Ambassador Andrzej Tyszkiewicz and his deputy Gerard A. Fischer. Although it was the first official visit of the US Ambassador to the EUMM HQ since he took office in September, he has already been to Field Office Gori.

The Head of Mission praised the excellent relations between EUMM and the US Embassy in Georgia, in particular at a working level.

Ambassador Norland thanked the Mission management for organising the visit and for the comprehensive update he was given on the current security situation, as well as the challenges ahead for the EUMM. He made it clear that the work the Mission is doing on the ground is indispensable and the situation would be much worse without it. He added that the US and the EU should keep on working for the resolution of the conflict. In this regard, the EU Monitoring Mission should continue its activities contributing to stability, as he put it: “moving the ball forward a bit each time”.
