The EUMM has decided to strengthen its Field Office (FO) network by moving their locations. This will help maximize the capability of the Mission by ensuring monitors are in the right place to meet the challenges ahead that it faces.
The Head of Mission, Ambassador Hansjorg Haber has commented;
“The EU Monitoring Mission has made great progress since it began its work on 1 October. However, many challenges remain, the situation along the administrative boundary lines is unpredictable, incidents are still occuring, and there are many Internally Displaced Persons that have to find accommodation before the winter weather approaches.
We have decided to make changes to our Field Office network to better match our resources to the challenges that lie ahead.
- FO Poti and the Rapid Reaction Capability will move to Khashuri and take over the responsibility for the Western part of the administrative boundary line of South Ossetia.
- FO Tbilisi will move from Bazaleti to Mtskheta in order to facilitate its access to its area of responsibility in all weather conditions.
- FO Gori will move to a new and more suitable office building. We are as well looking for suitable new office space in Zugdidi.”
