8 February 2021—The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met today with the Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Nikoloz Samkharadze.
The Head of Mission congratulated the Chairperson for his appointment and informed him that EUMM has continued to be present on the ground despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chairperson expressed his high appreciation for EUMM’s work, highlighting the Mission’s contribution to the security on the ground.
They also discussed the situation of conflict-affected communities and detention cases.
During the exchange about the Geneva International Discussions and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM), the Head of Mission informed the Chairperson that, jointly with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus, concrete efforts to convene the 98th Ergneti IPRM meeting as soon as possible are currently underway.
