21.04.2021
Tbilisi, 21 April 2021 – The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met today in Tbilisi with the recently appointed Minister of Defense of Georgia, Juansher Burchuladze.

During this introductory meeting, Ambassador Szczygieł congratulated the Minister on his appointment and wished him success during his mandate.

The Head of Mission further informed the Minister on EUMM’s continued, visible presence on the ground. He also welcomed the active cooperation between the Mission and the Ministry of Defense. In particular, the Head of Mission noted the compliance of Georgia with the Six-Point Agreement (2008) and the Provisional Arrangement for the Exchange of Information between the Ministry of Defence and EUMM (2009).

They also discussed in more detail the security situation on the ground, including the most recent detention cases and ‘borderisation’ activities, as well as the current, unfolding security developments in the broader region.

Minister Burchuladze stressed EUMM’s important role in maintaining stability, as the only international monitoring presence on the ground.
