16 October 2026, Odzisi – Today, EUMM Head
of Mission Bettina Patricia Boughani hosted a delegation, led by the OSCE
Chairperson-in-Office, on a patrol to the South Ossetian Administrative
Boundary Line (ABL) in the area of the Odzisi village.
The patrol included Ignazio Cassis, OSCE
Chairperson-in-Office and Vice-President of the Swiss Federal Council; Fabienne
Wasserman, Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia; and Christoph Späti, Special
Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.
At the Odzisi crossing point, the
delegation was briefed on the humanitarian and security situation along the
ABL. EUMM monitors explained the recent changes in the operating schedule of
the crossing point, noting that it is now open Thursday through Sunday weekly.
At the same time, monitors emphasised that, in the context of the Ergneti
Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), the OSCE and the EUMM
continue advocating for the full reopening of crossing points along the South
Ossetian ABL. Greater opportunities for cross-ABL movement can significantly
improve the daily lives, livelihoods, and sense of security of
conflict-affected women, men, and children. Finally, the monitors underlined
that EUMM presence in the area increases the sense of security of the local
population and helps prevent tensions.
The visit demonstrated the shared
commitment of the EU and OSCE to supporting security and stability in Georgia
and across the region.
