42nd IPRM meeting takes place in Ergneti

27.02.2014

On 27 February 2014 the 42nd meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Ergneti, co-facilitated by Toivo Klaar, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), and Ambassador Angelo Gnaedinger, the OSCE Special Representative for the South Caucasus.

Participants reviewed the current security situation including recent detention and criminal cases. Participants exchanged views on the consequences of installation of fences on the livelihood of the local communities, focusing on a number of specific situations. The co-facilitators called on participants to adopt a pragmatic approach towards access to farming land, in order to ease the negative impact of fencing on the local communities, as agricultural season will start soon.

Participants constructively looked into various issues related to water and electricity supply in several villages on both sides of the Administrative Boundary Line.

The next IPRM meeting will take place on 21 March 2014.
