74th IPRM meeting takes place in Ergneti

On 3rd February 2017, the 74th meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Ergneti, co-facilitated by Kęstutis Jankauskas, the Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) and Mr. Armin Rieser, OSCE Chairmanship representative. 

Prior to the meeting the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, addressed the participants. 

Participants conferred the security situation along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL), which was assessed as calm and the decrease in detentions was noticed. A single case of long-term detention was continuously discussed. 

Issues related to agricultural activities along the ABL and consequently the livelihood of the affected population were raised. Participants expressed their interest to discuss possible solutions in view of the forthcoming agricultural season. 

The readiness of the participants to jointly address security concerns by effectively using the Hotline to manage incidents on the ground was appreciated by the co-facilitators. The co-facilitators noted increased military activity. The exchange of information on this issue was discussed in the context of greater predictability along the ABL.

The next IPRM meeting will take place on 2nd March 2017.
