Today, the President of Georgia H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili received the new Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (Georgia), Erik Høeg, whose tenure as Head of Mission commenced on the 19 December 2018.
Erik Høeg is a Danish Diplomat who served in various posts in the Danish Foreign Ministry for 16 years before taking up a position as Deputy Head of the EU Monitoring Mission from April 2015.
During the meeting, Erik Høeg updated the President on the work of the Mission. Mr. Erik Høeg and President Giorgi Margvelashvili discussed the impact on local communities of installing barriers to freedom of movement. Mr. Erik Høeg welcomed the efficient information exchange with Georgian authorities and underlined the importance of continuing compliance with agreements in place.
The President expressed his appreciation for the essential contribution of the EUMM to security and stability, as the only international monitoring presence on the ground.
