Erik Høeg, Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, meets with the President of Georgia, H.E. Salome Zourabichvili

Today, the new President of Georgia H.E. Salome Zourabichvili received the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (Georgia), Erik Høeg.

Mr. Erik Høeg congratulated the President on her election. He outlined the present work of the Mission and achievements in its ten years of continuous presence in Georgia. He stressed the Mission’s operational impartiality as key to maintaining the trust and confidence of the international community in the information, which it provides. Mr. Erik Høeg commended the open and efficient information exchange between the EU Monitoring Mission and Georgian authorities

President Salome Zourabichvili and Mr. Erik Høeg discussed conflict dynamics and recent developments at the Administrative Boundary Line. The recently introduced restrictions at controlled crossing points and the impact on freedom of movement and livelihoods of people living in the area were also considered.  

The President expressed her gratitude for the valuable role that the Mission plays in facilitating dialogue and in monitoring events on the ground in Georgia.
